Caritas workers kidnapped in Congo

August 17, 2016

Three aid workers associated with the Catholic relief and development agency Caritas were kidnapped in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on August 16, according to an Agence-France Presse report.

Members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, a Hutu rebel group, are suspected of carrying out the abduction.

“Two Caritas-Congo vehicles were ambushed in Misinga and three Congolese workers were kidnapped,” a Caritas-Congo spokesman said.
