'Sexting' charge against former vicar general of California diocese

August 16, 2016

A California man has brought a sexual-harassment lawsuit against Msgr. Lawrence McGovern, the former vicar general of the Stockton diocese.

The suit alleges that Msgr. McGovern had made overtures to the man, who was a parish employee, and eventually sent him a photo of his genitalia. When the man objected, the priest reportedly replied in a text message: "Oops, sorry about that. The curse of the internet."

The lawsuit goes on to charge that after the employee reported the incident, Msgr. McGovern fired him from his parish job.
