Zambian prelate blasts state-run media

August 08, 2016

As Zambian voters prepare to go to the polls on August 11, a bishop strongly criticized the bias of state-run media.

“For a lack of a better term, the public media has become an ‘enemy of information’ in the course of these campaigns,” said Bishop Evans Chinyemba of Mongu. “The behavior of the public media has given birth to some online media that have become mouthpieces for the opposition political parties at times not also giving correct news and often painting the government in a dark brush.”

The prelate also called upon Zambians to “vote as if this was your last vote.”

The African nation of 16.2 million is approximately two-thirds Protestant and one-third Catholic.
