Italian priest beatified
May 23, 2016
Father Francesco Maria Greco (1857-1931), an Italian diocesan priest who founded the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts, was beatified in Cosenza on May 21.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided at the beatification Mass, which 22 bishops, 700 religious, and 15,000 of the faithful attended.
“Between the 19th and 20th centuries, he fostered the religious life and the social life of his city, Acri, where he carried out the whole of his fruitful ministry,” Pope Francis said the following day after the recitation of the Angelus. “Let us give thanks to God for this exemplary priest.”
