Pope lauds sport as 'school of virtue'

April 06, 2016

Pope Francis praised the role that athletic competition can play in building ties among peoples, as he concluded his regular public audience on April 6.

Noting that the UN had designated the date as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the Holy Father said:

Sport is a universal language that brings peoples closer and can contribute to facilitating encounter and overcoming conflicts. I therefore encourage sport to be experience as a school of virtue in the complete growth of individuals and communities."
