Milwaukee archdiocese rebuffs candidate's claim of archbishop's endorsement

April 05, 2016

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has announced that a local political candidate had no authorization to distribute a flyer suggesting that he had the endorsement of Archbishop Jerome Listecki.

Chris Wiken, a candidate for the office of alderman, sent out a flyer that featured a photo of the archbishop, who was identified as a "proud supporter" and "100% behind him." But the archdiocese said that the archbishop had not approved of the flyer.

Archbishop Listecki is personally friendly with Wiken, the archdiocese said, but did not and will not endorse a candidate in the local race.
