At Easter Monday audience, Pope points to Mary as witness to hope

March 28, 2016

"Life has conquered death! Mercy and love have conquered sin!" Pope Francis said at a midday audience on Easter Monday, March 28.

Before leading his audience in praying the Regina Caeli, the Pope remarked that the Virgin Mary is the greatest witness to the hope that is confirmed in the Resurrection. "She did not collapse in the faith of grief, but her faith made her stronger," he said. "In the broken heart of a mother, there was always the flame of hope."

As he concluded his audience, Pope Francis again spoke out to condemn the "reprehensible" terrorist bombing in Lahore, Pakistan, and to urge political leaders to "do everything possible to restore security and peace to the population and in particular to the most vulnerable religious minorities."
