Pope's schedule for Holy Week unchanged; Holy Thursday Mass outside Rome

March 22, 2016

Pope Francis will be the first Pontiff in many years to celebrate Mass on Holy Thursday outside the city of Rome, when he travels to a center for refugees at Castelnuovo di Porto.

In a gesture for the Year of Mercy, underlining his insistence on care for migrants, the Pope will celebrate Mass for the asylum-seekers and wash the feet of refugees. He is expected to wash the feet of both men and women, including Muslims, at the center.

The Vatican has told reporters that no changes are contemplated for the schedule of liturgical events during Holy Week, despite the March 22 attack in Brussels and the persistent rumors that terrorists have targeted Rome.
