Community asks prayers for Mother Angelica

February 23, 2016

Mother Angelica, the founder of the Eternal Word broadcasting network (EWTN), is still clinging to life, and her sisters at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery have issued a new call for prayers.

"Mother's condition remains delicate and she receives devoted care day and night by her sisters and nurses," the Alabama community disclosed on February 23. Last November the monastery revealed that she had been put on a feeding tube, as her health declines.

Mother Angelica, who founded EWTN in 1981, was incapacitated by a severe stroke in 2001. She is now approaching her 93rd birthday.

I had the honor of hearing Mother Angelica speak during the time she was building the Eternal Word broadcasting network (EWTN), which she attributed to a call from the Holy Spirit. She was a combination stand-up comedienne and humble servant of the Spirit who admitted to a lack of knowledge about starting television networks and raising funds for the task. I join her sisters in praying for her and in calling for prayers to ease her trip home to her beloved Father, Son, and Spirit.
