Safe water, sanitation are focus of papal message for Brazilian Lenten campaign
February 17, 2016
In a recent message on behalf of the Campaign of Fraternity, the Brazilian bishops’ annual Lenten campaign, Pope Francis welcomed this year’s focus on safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
“We all have responsibility for our common home,” he said, as he described safe drinking water as a “necessary condition for overcoming social injustice and for the eradication of poverty and hunger.”
The Pope expressed satisfaction that the campaign is being conducted in conjunction with the National Council of Christian Churches of Brazil and with the German Catholic charitable agency Misereor.
