Paraguay’s ex-bishop president to return to Church
April 16, 2009
Under fire for fathering a child while still a bishop, the laicized president of Paraguay, Fernando Armindo Lugo Méndez, said he would “return to the Church” upon leaving office. “When I leave office I will return to the Church because I never left it-- I only left the priesthood,” he said. “Fortunately, the Catholic Church is very pluralistic and has many places where I will be able to work when I leave the presidency on Aug. 16, 2013.”
