Iranian Protestant pastor to be released from prison
July 17, 2015
Farshid Fathi, an Iranian convert to Christianity who organized a house church, will be released from prison in December, two years before his scheduled release.
Arrested in 2010, Fathi was sentenced on charges of “acting against national security… [and] collection of funds and propaganda against the Islamic regime by helping spread Christianity in the country.”
The Russian news agency Interfax reported that the announcement of Fathi’s release followed a letter from Patriarch Kirill of Moscow to Iran’s president asking for clemency.
