Brazilian bishops open annual Lenten campaign

February 18, 2015

The Catholic bishops of Brazil have opened the 52nd annual Campaign for Fraternity, a program that is run each year during Lent.

In a message to the Brazilian bishops, welcoming the annual campaign, Pope Francis wrote that the Church “cannot be indifferent to the needs of those she encounters, as the joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted.” These, the Pope said, “are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ.”
