Indian archbishop worried by rumors about Christmas school days, mass conversions
December 16, 2014
Archbishop Anil J. T. Couto of Delhi has voiced concern over reports that schools will be open on Christmas Day.
The archbishop decried reports that Hindu militants plan a ceremony for the “conversion” of 5,000 Christians and Muslims, also on Christmas Day. If true, he said, the planned ceremony would appear to be “a violation of Constitutional rights and guarantees to citizens of India such as the freedom of faith and the freedom of movement, expression and association.”
A spokesman for the federal government said that schools would be closed for Christmas.
