Vatican nixes joint Catholic-Anglican confirmation rite in Australia

Plans by Australian Catholic and Anglican bishops for a joint celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation have been set aside after a Vatican intervened. Catholic Bishop Michael Malone of Maitland-Newscastle and his Anglican counterpart, Dr. Brian Farran, disclosed that the Congregation for Divine Worship had said that the proposed service could result in "confusing messages being given to the people."
