New Orleans: City drops charges against vigil participants
January 08, 2009
The New Orleans City Attorney’s Office yesterday dropped charges against two Catholics who had occupied their closed parishes. “According to the city attorney, they didn't want to arrest anyone, but they felt like they had no choice,” said the attorney representing one of those charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. Another attorney, though, said, “Archbishop [Alfred] Hughes didn't want to get on the stand and explain why he's going to arrest people of his faith.”
