Vietnamese nuns protest another government property seizure

January 05, 2009

A community of Catholic religious in Vietnam's Vinh Long diocese have lodged a formal protest against government plans to seize a convent. In the latest example of a recurring struggle between Catholic groups and government leaders, the Congregation of St. Paul of Chartres has challenged the legality of a government plan to evict the nuns from their own property. As in other, similar conflicts, government officials say that the property will be converted into a public park.
