Pope urges special prayers for Christians of the Holy Land

December 05, 2008

At a December 5 private audience with members of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, Pope Benedict XVI recalled the history of that order as a group formed to protect the burial place of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. The Pope expressed his concern for the Christians now living in the Holy Land, and particular " or our many brethren in the faith who have been forced to emigrate." As the Christian world turns its eyes toward Bethlehem, he said, the faithful should ask the Virgin Mary's " maternal protection for our brothers and sisters who live there and have to face no small number of difficulties every day."
