Vatican inks pact against cluster bombs

The Vatican has signed an international accord banning the use of cluster munitions. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Secretary for Relations with States, signed the agreement on December 3, saying that it is "an important step in the protection of civilians during and after conflicts, from the indiscriminate effects of this inhumane type of weapon." He urged all nations to join in the effort to eliminate manufacture and trade of the weapons.
