State Department calls for release of Vietnamese priest-activist
July 27, 2011
The US State Department is calling for the immediate release of Father Nguyen Van Ly, a human rights activist who was recently returned to prison.
Father Ly was released from prison in 2010 after suffering strokes. The decision to put him back in jail appears to have been motivated by his recent public statements, issued from house arrest, denouncing the government for human rights violations.
