Luciana Frassati Grawonska dead at 105 October 08, 2007

Luciana Frassati Gawronska, the sister and biographer of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, has died at the age of 105. Her funeral will be held in Turin's cathedral.

Pier Giorgio Frassati, born in Turin in 1901, quickly developed a reputation for his dedication to Catholic social teaching, his opposition to the rise of fascism in Italy, his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and his personal care for the poor. He died in 1925, only 24 years old, but his reputation for sanctity had been established and he was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1990. His sister is the author of the first important account of his life, A Man of the Beatitudes.

Pier Giorgio and Luciana Frassati were the children of Alfredo Frassati, a prominent Italian journalist and founder of the newspaper La Stampa.
