PRECURSOR

As the herald of Christ, St. John the Baptist, of whom all four Evangelists wrote at length and who was described by his father, Zechariah, in the Benedictus "You shall be called Prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare the way for Him" (Luke 1:76). (Etym. Latin praecursor, forerunner.)
