JESSE WINDOW

A stained-glass representation of Christ's human genealogy. The symbol is in the form of a many-branched tree and takes on a variety of forms. Christ is at the summit, with the main characters in his genealogy depicted on the branches beneath. The name is derived from Jesse, the father of King David, who is the root of the tree (I Samuel 16:18-22; Isaiah 11:1).
