HEXAPLA

Origen's critical edition of the Old Testament in Hebrew and Greek in the late second century. This sixfold Bible in fifty volumes is arranged in six parallel columns containing the Hebrew text in Hebrew and Greek characters, the Septuagint, and three other Greek versions. Origen wished to show the relationship of the Septuagint to the Hebrew and Greek texts. The column exhibiting the Septuagint is the only one that has survived. (Etym. Greek hexapla, six-fold.)
