CAESAROPAPISM
The policy of kingly or civil supremacy in Catholic Church affairs. Emulating pagan priest-emperors, temporal rulers have variously meddled in ecclesiastical affairs, encroaching mainly upon the doctrinal powers of the Church; Caesar takes the place of the Pope.
