ABBACY OF ST. JEROME

Founded by Pope Pius XI in 1933, to replace the pontifical commission created by St. Pius X in 1914 for the revision of the Vulgate. Its scope is to restore, as far as possible, the primitive Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible confirmed by the Council of Trent, to prepare editions for publication, and to engage in other pertinent studies. The abbacy belongs to the Benedictine Congregation of France, and the work on the Vulgate is under the direction of the Holy See.
