A warning for the White House
By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Jul 11, 2003
When a staunchly Republican magazine like National Review begins making noises about secession from the Republican Party, it's time for GOP leaders to take notice.
And that's exactly what's happened in a remarkable editorial, which points out that conservatives are losing battles on Capitol Hill regularly, especially on economic and social questions. If the White House and the Republican leadership won't stand and fight, the NR editors suggest that this might be "not a bad time for conservatives to declare their independence from the GOP establishment."
