Missing: a sense of urgency

In Rome, a friendly reader reports, they’re saying that the house is burning down, and the firemen are coming—in February.

And that’s the good news. The bad news is that the firemen won’t bring pumps or hoses or ladders or axes. Or water. Kerosene, maybe.

    Hmmm. Almost makes one ask what else the dominant leaders could do to undermine confidence in the Church. At present the likely outcome of February’s synod will only be a continued defense of clerical homosexuality and therefore even an even deeper lay disgust with and mistrust of the hierarchy. Which might be
