Synchronize watches!

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Jul 31, 2003

It was noon today, Rome time-- early morning in the US-- when the Vatican released the document on same-sex marriages. That document makes it clear that:

  • Opposition to the legal recognition of same-sex unions is a moral duty
  • Diocesan bishops should issue their own statements on the topic
  • and, most abundantly clear of all,
  • Voting in favor of same-sex "marriage" in any form is "gravely immoral."
  • How long do you suppose it will be before an American bishop issues a statement as clear and compelling as the Vatican document?

How long before a leading Catholic politician in the US makes a clear public statement against all forms of legal recognition for same-sex unions?

How long before a leading Catholic politician commits the "gravely immoral" act of supporting such measures? And when that happens, how long before his bishop rebukes him?
