Random vacation thoughts

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Jul 30, 2003

A few of the heavy questions that I pondered while sitting on the beach last week:

- Why is the sound of ocean surf so relaxing? Ordinarily you'd think that a "roar" or a "constant pounding" would be headache material. Why is it calming in this case?

- Why is it even more relaxing to float in the ocean, and be "tossed around" by the waves? That's another phrase not ordinarily associated with relaxation.

Just wondering...
