Pondering the news that American taxpayers contributed $1 billion in funding for pro-abortion organizations between 2002 and 2009, David Gibson makes a pointed observation on the Commonweal blog:
That period, for those with short memories, generally corresponds to the two terms of a certain President George W. Bush, who has been depicted in many quarters as a pro-life champion and defender of Catholic values.
That’s one way to look at it; the statistics certainly don’t burnish W’s pro-life credentials. But you could also look at the same fact from a different perspective. If Uncle Sam gave $1 billion to pro-abortion groups under the Bush Administration, what do you suppose is happening right now under Obama?
