Jim-Bob spends most of his time at the counter of the Quik Mart, down there by self-serve gas station. In the mornings he has a cup of coffee, reads the papers, checks his lottery tickets, chats with the other regulars, and eventually-- usually around 11 or so-- saunters down to town hall. (He leaves a little early on Friday to pick up the paycheck for whatever job it is that his uncle lined up for him there.) He's always back for a late lunch. Then at about 4 he's there again, on the front porch with the other good old boys, sipping Pabst. If you ask Jim-Bob about his aspirations, he'll tell you that he just wishes he could find the time to go fishing.
For some reason, I got to thinking about Jim-Bob after reading today's News Bytes. I wonder if he ever found that time to relax.
