The Real Dangers of AI

By Thomas B. Fowler ( bio - articles - email ) | Feb 04, 2026

Introductory note by Jeff Mirus:

After writing several articles on artificial intelligence for CatholicCulture.org in 2024 (see details and links in What can we expect from Artificial Intelligence?), Thomas B. Fowler, Sc.D. published a major book on this important topic in 2025: Artificial Intelligence: Foundations, Limitations, Benefits and Dangers.

Tom has given us permission to post two chapters of the book, the first of which is found at the link above, and the second of which is linked below.

Read: The Real Dangers of AI (chapter 9 of Thomas B. Fowler’s remarkable book Artifical Intelligence).

Thomas Fowler Sc.D. has been analyzing data and programs for 50 years, serving as a consultant to government agencies. He has also been a professor of mathematics, physics, and engineering, and is the author of four books and 145 articles, several dealing with the climate change issue. He is especially concerned about the increasing polticization of science and engineering, and its effect on student education and the ability of elected officials to make accurate judgments.
