In my view, the average person will receive more influence from psychologists through advertising than through any other means. Catholics should reflect that psychological manipulation is the intent of much consumer advertising, including political advertising. Another good reason to have the intellect and the emotions in proper balance.

Have you ever read Father Frank Poncelet's book "Airwaves From Hell?" In it he goes into detail about how advertising and especially television is actually a very effective form of manipulation. He claims that watching TV actually shuts off the analytical side of the brain which then opens you up to manipulation since your critical thinking skills have now been hampered. He has two books on this topic and both are excellent.
