Around the blogs today

By Domenico Bettinelli, Jr. ( articles - email ) | Sep 15, 2003

Here's what's new and interesting on Catholic blogs today:

  • The always hilarious Jeff Miller gives his take on the eternal question: What if Adam had a blog?
  • Leon Podles has an unusual recommendation regarding mandatory clerical celibacy and it has to do with Catholic priests for whom celibacy is optional.
  • Amy Welborn reacts to Andrew Sullivan's approving nod to the early Church father Tertullian's anti-bishop stance in the latter days of his life.
  • The Mighty Barrister says syndicated columnist James Lileks is really searching for God, denying the proof when he sees it.
  • Maureen McHugh says Catholics who complain about bishops, especially bishops who are not their own, are breaking the rule that a Catholic owes his obedience to his bishop. And she says they are unconsciously serving the Culture of Death by creating divisions and infighting in the Church.
  • Earl Appleby has his own roundup of "Strong Words" for week from various blogs.
  • The Old Oligarch discusses what it's like being a lay Catholic theologian and being cornered everywhere he goes by people either venting their spleen at the Church, seeking spiritual direction, or asking probing questions about faith. I guess this is similar to what doctors experience.
  • David Morrison notes two Australian gays who adopted a son "contracted" with a woman in the US and who now say they don't want the boy to grow up to be gay.
  • The Recovering Choir Director aggregates links having to do with one blogger's assertion that parish music directors should not be paid.
  • Chris, the Maine Catholic, connects some facts concerning the action being taken against priests involved in the infamous St. Sebastian's Angels web site and the news that former auxiliary bishop of Portland, Maine, Michael Cote knew of allegations as far back as May 2002. Did the bishop have a deeper connection than previously thought?
