One hestitates to enjoy a bit of black humor at the expense of an organization as good as the National Right to Life Committee. But a headline in the August/September 2010 issue of their National Right to Life News left us feeling sorry for the undoubtedly embarrassed editor who wrote it:

“Workplace Campaign Giving Opportunities to Help the Unborn Kick Off in September!”

I’m afraid we’ve all been there. I once left a mere three-letter word out of the text of a proposed pro-life amendment when I published a booklet by Charlie Rice of Notre Dame Law School promoting that amendment. How much of a difference could that make? Well, the word was “not”, as in “Congress shall NOT make any law…”.

In just the same way, helping the unborn kick off is the exact opposite of the NRLC’s purpose.

But it’s still funny.

Well, football kicks off in September, too, so I guess it could be construed as consistent if the unborn grows up to be a kicker in football? Is that too much of a reach?
