Nothing new in Eucharistic document?

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Oct 08, 2003

If John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter is right-- and when it comes to getting straight facts from the Vatican, he usually is-- the forthcoming "disciplinary" document on the Eucharist will contain very little that is new or surprising.

(Go here and scroll down to the bottom for Allen's coverage of the Eucharistic document-- although his thoughts on the new cardinals, at the top of the column, are also quite interesting.)

Again, if Allen is right, something has happened in Rome. Every early indication-- including the leaked stories that surfaced a couple of weeks ago-- suggested that this document would have some real impact. Has the Roman Curia decided against the stronger medicine?
