If you hope to see us in 2016, please act now.

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | Dec 01, 2015

As everyone has surely noticed, CatholicCulture.org has entered its peak fundraising season. The Fall Campaign makes or breaks us each year, and November is the key month in the campaign.

CatholicCulture.org lost about $10,000 last year after three years of meeting the budget. As of December 1st this year, we were still running $65,000 behind our expenses for 2015.

The $60,000 Challenge Grant that has been offered to our users is the only way we can close most of that gap. But the matching process is painfully slow. We still have $15,000 to match with new donations between now and December 8th.

We need more support to continue

We have never been further behind our budget, and if we cannot come very close to meeting our expenses, CatholicCulture.org will not be operational in 2016.

I am perfectly content to accept the dispositions of Providence in this matter. It is my firm opinion that our work should stand or fall based on how important it is to those who benefit from it. And I know how annoying constant fundraising can be.

But it is still necessary to be frank. We will either cover our expenses, or we will not. If we do, we will continue. But we have no financial angels, so if we don’t...well then we won’t.

Measuring our impact

CatholicCulture.org reaches five million people directly each year with Catholic news, commentary and spiritual resources—at the incredibly low cost of just eight cents per person served. We reach perhaps ten times more readers as our original material is very widely used by other websites, blogs, newsletters, bulletins, radio, TV and social media.

Our mission emphasizes fidelity to the Magisterium and balanced Catholic judgment. We avoid personal hobby horses, unwarranted accusations and useless complaints. What is important is to think with the Church.

During our Fall Campaign, I have been using my emails to quote testimonials from priests, religious and lay people around the world. We receive such comments year-round, but I won’t include any in fundraising that have not been received within the past few weeks.

But we do make a huge difference to many. To take just one example, Fr. James Kubicki, SJ is the US Director of the Apostleship of Prayer—the Pope’s own prayer network. Fr. Kubicki wrote in October that he relies heavily on CatholicCulture.org. He called it “an invaluable resource for our ministry.”

What I ask of you

Here is what I very much need you to do:

  1. Don’t be annoyed. If you cannot contribute, use my appeals as a reminder to say a quick prayer for the Church as you hit DELETE.
  2. Decide how important our work is to you, to others, and to the Church as a whole.
  3. If you have not yet given all you can to our Fall Campaign, make your largest possible donation now, while it can be matched.
  4. Please recognize that if we do not match our $60,000 Challenge Grant, we will be unable to continue.
  5. If you pray for us regularly, let me know. We keep a list of those who pray for us, and I remember them in my own prayers.

Please offer your maximum gift now, so that it will count twice.

You can click the link above to use our simple and secure online donation system. Or, if you prefer, your gift will also be matched if you mail a check or money order to Trinity Communications, P.O. Box 582, Manassas, VA 20108, USA. Donations are tax-deductible in the United States.

Thank you!

If I were going to suggest to someone to donate twice (or more) in a calendar year, this would be the time.

If I were going to suggest to someone just one Catholic site to read daily, it would be this one. In fact I have said that to people.
