Happy 75th

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Nov 04, 2006

Today is the 75th birthday of Cardinal Bernard Law, the archpriest of the basilica of St. Mary Major. Just in case he forgets, your Uncle Di hereby volunteers to help him draft his letter of resignation, as required by canon law.

His has been an effective life of ministry, sadly impaired by... Come to think of it, what was the problem that led to his resignation the first time around? We've never been told. But don't worry; we'll think of something.

Ever since the "outbreak" of abuse surged to the media, I have humbly submitted my opinion that the worst damage is inflicted by the cover up rather than from the acts themselves. Cruel as this may sound, an abuse act can be healed when identified. But as long as there is a cover up, the original act continues forever and can never heal. Those who cover up repeat the abuse themselves. Diogenes is right in requiring action against those who cover up to their full responsibility as accomplices.

Judas Iscariot, one of the apostles, betrayed Christ without repentance. The other eleven did not ostracize him; he eliminated himself.

There is no punishment in the Cannon Law! What a lame excuse, the Pope has the power to punish him like sending him in seclution to a monastery to a life of pray, penance, poverty, and menial labor

under canon law the bishop is judge, jury and prosecutor for his diocese, so you're never going to get relief through that channel. in the us, 6 bishops resigned because they molested children and 1 because he killed a man. no punitive action has been taken against any of them. until benny publicly calls them on the carpet, his talk of reform is just hot air and empty promises.
