New York Times reporter Ian Fisher has written CWN regarding your Uncle Di's contention that he has borrowed the work of other journalists. With respect to the World Youth Day cites, Fisher explains that he and the NCR's John Allen did the controversial interview jointly, and reminds us that the time required to assemble a print-edition newspaper necessitates a lag behind instantaneous Internet posting. With respect to the papal fashion accessories, he points out (with OTR commentator RC) that there was an earlier story on CNN mentioning the same details Andrew Sullivan and he picked up on. To his credit, Fisher acknowledges that he may reasonably be faulted for mentioning the Pope's shoes at all, but he denies that he lifted other people's work.

While I think the coincidences mentioned earlier would strike any fair-minded reader as in need of explanation, Fisher gives a satisfactory account of their genesis, whence I have pulled my elevated eyebrows down to their normal level and invite OTR readers to do the same.
