Catholic Business Thoughts for Autumn

Here are some practical business thoughts as we move into the autumn months.
- At my business, we pray for our clients—that they will do both natural and supernatural good. This is a good practice, and is a way of further dignifying the work that you do.
- Courtesy and generosity go a long way. If you are unfailingly courteous and generous with everyone that you encounter in business, you have a greater chance of success. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
- Participation in fantasy football (and similar) is not a moral good that supersedes daily responsibilities of life.
- Staying physically active has helped more than one spiritual life to become, and remain, productive.
- As the days get shorter—if you don’t have a lot of natural light in your office, consider installing full spectrum light bulbs. Environment is one key to productivity, and some say this can make a big difference to those who are affected by the “winter blues”.
- It is true that some great business relationships are sealed only with a handshake, but I have found that reasonable expectations are best created (and remembered) by writing them down in contract form. The better the friendship, the greater the need to protect it by mutual understanding and formal agreement.
- The tasks that take longest to complete are the tasks that are never started.
- Finally, speak softly and carry a rosary in your pocket.
