The Parish, Debunked

The Bishop of Syracuse serves as pastor for three churches in his New York diocese. In addition to his episcopal ministry, Bishop Douglas Loucia commutes within a “pastoral care area” in the suburb of Baldwinsville. The bishop's pastoral spirit is heartening, but the situation points to the fact that the parish, as envisioned by canon law, has become something of a myth in the United States.
