Texas Catholic hospital says sterilizations were done in 'good faith'
November 26, 2008
Officials at a Catholic hospital in Tyler, Texas have said that they were "abiding by a good-faith interpretation" of Catholic teachings when they allowed sterilizations. Officials at Trinity Mother Frances Health Care System said that they were acting on advice from Catholic moralists in allowing tubal ligations performed after childbirth. The hospital issued its public statement after Bishop Alvaro Corrada found that the sterilizations were done in violation of Church teachings-- a practice for which he expressed deep regret.
