Our Very Own Rogues’ Gallery

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | Nov 02, 2009

Listen up, people! I need you to bear witness, to share the faith, to inspire your neighbors. Now, to be perfectly honest, I’m not reminding you here of what Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wants you to do. No, this is about something more (well, okay, actually less). I want you to bear witness for CatholicCulture.org.

I believe that if you explain to others what CatholicCulture.org means to you, and why you support it through your prayers or donations (or both), then others will be similarly motivated. They will join in. That’s why we’re developing a sort of “Rogues’ Gallery” (no, make that “User Showcase”) to feature the stories of our most dedicated users.

I’m introducing this somewhat tongue in cheek, but here is what I’d very much like you to do. Send me a message explaining what CatholicCulture.org means to you, how it helps you, and why you support it spiritually and/or materially. Perhaps CatholicCulture.org helps you draw a little closer to Christ or perhaps you use our resources to help keep your family Catholic. Maybe our site makes your own apostolic work a little easier, or maybe it assists you in bringing your Faith to bear on the larger culture.

Whatever the reasons you value CatholicCulture.org, please write them up briefly in a message. Include your name, city, state or province, and country, and attach a photo suitable for the web. We’ll add you to our “gallery” so that other users can read about why you value CatholicCulture.org. I’m convinced that your witness will inspire many others to register and support our work.

This should also help us raise funds during Advent—hopefully without ever having to cry wolf.

Please do this quickly. We’d like to have a whole “cloud of witnesses” (Heb 12:1) firmly in place by mid-November. Send your message (with photo attached) to [email protected].

Homophobia: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals. I guess Jesus was homophobic. I wonder what Romans 1: 18 thru 32 meant. Read the whole thing. It may shed some light on this subject. Discrimination can be a good, saving and positive attribute. NO fear, just love and prayer for these people.

I look to CatholicCulture.org for evidence that there is wide range of Catholic thought among the laity. It is refreshing to see bishops and even Cardinals held accountable for their failings. They aren't the bishops and Cardinals that I would identify as deserving of criticism but it is refreshing nonetheless. I do wish the folks at CatholicCulture.org would rein in their homophobic impulses.
