Catholic revival requires full embrace of Church teaching, British bishop argues
October 30, 2008
In an interview with the Zenit news service, Bishop Patrick O'Donoghue of Lancaster, England explained that he issued a candid appraisal of Church problems because " bishops and people have been inhibited about openly admitting the sickness in the Church, and wider society, caused by misinterpretations of the Council, and the corresponding widespread dissent." In his widely discussed statement, "Fit for Mission," the bishop criticized Catholic educational programs and called for a renewed appreciation for the value of tradition and continuity in the Church. The revival of Catholicism, he told Zenit, hinges on a full embrace of the Church's authority and constant teaching.
