Italian journalist sees Pope challenging Italian bishops on liturgical reform

In his message to the Italian bishops’ conference this week, Pope Benedict XVI stressed the importance of reverence in the Eucharistic liturgy. Sandro Magister of L’Espresso sees the papal message as “a severe rebuke to the Italian Catholic hierarchy,” since the country’s bishops have shown little appetite for the liturgical “reform of the reform.”
