Pro-lifers force referendum on abortion bill in Massachusetts
October 30, 2026
Pro-life activists in Massachusetts have collected 100,000 certified signatures—more than double the number required by law—to force a statewide referendum on a radical abortion law.
The new legislation, passed earlier this year by the state legislature without serious debate and signed into law by Governor Maura Healey, would allow for abortion on demand under any circumstances, and for any reason, up to the moment of birth.
The citizens’ petition to repeal the law, organized by a coalition of local pro-life organizations, will have the effect of blocking implementation of the law until a statewide referendum on the issue in November 2028.
The successful signature drive benefited from the support of all the Catholic bishops in Massachusetts, who denounced the new law and encouraged parishes to cooperate with the initiative.
