Work toward the supernatural good of individuals, Pope tells canonists
October 24, 2026
Pope Leo XIV encouraged canonists to seek the supernatural good of individual members of the faithful.
The Pontiff made his remarks to participants in a conference marking the 150th anniversary of the Pontifical Gregorian University’s Faculty of Canon Law.
“The Program of Studies of your Faculty states: ‘Church law must always be directed towards the supernatural good of the individual faithful and the edification of ecclesial communion,’“ Pope Leo said during the audience, which took place on October 23 in Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace. “I urge you to work faithfully towards this end, that is, for the supernatural good of individuals, which is achieved by pursuing true justice, which in the Church is never separated from truth and mercy.”
