CWN Editor's Note: The newly appointed president of the Pontifical Mission Societies discussed her views on women’s ordination in an interview.

“Who am I to say whether the door is open or closed [to women priests]?” said Sister Mary Barron, O.L.A., who will assume her new office on January 4.

“Women today may hear the call to priesthood,” Sister Barron continued. Some of the great women saints heard that call also.”

“So for me, it’s how do we within Church facilitate that discernment?” she added. “So I think even though … there have been moments where we’ve been told we can’t talk about this at all, it’s over … it comes back and it comes back ... I think the Spirit will guide us even if we say we can’t talk about it now.”
