CWN Editor's Note: The Pakistani bishops’ National Commission for Justice and Peace published its annual report on the persecution of Christians and other religious minorities there, including blasphemy charges and the forced marriages and forced conversions of women and girls.
Bishop Samson Shukardin of Hyderabad, the commission’s chairman, said that political leaders’ description of Pakistan as “a country of Muslims, for Muslims,” is “not merely a rhetorical failure. It is a deliberate denial of Pakistan’s multi-religious reality, and the nation has paid an enormous price for it.”
